LONGi Solar

LONGi Solar is the world’s leading manufacturer of monocrystalline solar panels and monocrystalline photovoltaic cells, with more than 3000 patents it is the leader in this technology.

Since the year 2000 it was founded, it has not stopped growing, now has a production capacity of 8.8 GW and has a vertical production line, which begins with the casting of silicon ingots, through the production of wafers, the manufacture and doping of photovoltaic cells and assembly of solar panels.

Bloomberg NEF constantly names LONGi Solar in the Tier 1 ranking of photovoltaic module manufacturers.

Bloomberg’s 3-level classification system for photovoltaic solar panel manufacturers is based on bankability to differentiate the hundreds of solar module manufacturers. In short, the European Investment Bank (EIB) considers a project to be bankable if third party lenders are willing to finance it1. BNEF classifies Tier 1 manufacturers as those who have supplied proprietary products to six different projects, which have been financed by six different (non-development) banks over the past two years.

Manufacturers in China, India and Turkey are subject to a stricter criterion that the operation of the project must be without recourse, which means that the bank assumes the risk in case of failure of the photovoltaic modules. LONGi Solar ranks 7th according to annual internal production capacity.

Independent validation of product reliability

Although the BNEF recognizes that a Level 1 classification is not a recommendation, it is a feature of transparency and good data availability. In addition, the Tier 1 BNEF classification includes an annotation denoting manufacturers of solar panels for which DNV GL makes technical due diligence available. Less than 50% of the 34 Tier 1 manufacturers have obtained this independent validation. LONGi Solar modules have been validated by DNV GL.

In its fourth annual PV Module Reliability Scorecard Report 2018, published on 28 May 2018, DNV GL, the world’s largest certification body and independent energy experts, awarded LONGi Solar a “Top Performer” for the reliability of the modules. The DNV GL awards are based on laboratory tests of the reliability of photovoltaic modules, including: thermal cycles (TC600), humid heat (DH2000), dynamic mechanical load (DML) and potential induced degradation (PID). LONGi Solar was awarded the “Top Performer” award for its monocrystalline PERC modules in the four test categories. This is a validation of the advantages of high efficiency, high reliability and high performance of LONGi Solar’s monocrystalline modules, as well as support for the company’s advanced technology, equipment, product testing and R&D capabilities.

Largest investment in R&D

LONGi Solar has always put the quality and advanced technology of its products and modules first. Investment in R&D for the advancement of monocrystalline technology has continuously increased. In 2017, the company invested RMB 1,108 million, 6.8% of its sales, in R&D, the largest among photovoltaic companies in the world.

With a continuous investment in R&D, LONGi Solar has made notable technological progress. Since September 2017, the company has broken the world record for PERC cell and module technology eight times in a row. Technological advances will gradually be incorporated into the series production of LONGi Solar products. The company has already started the transfer of its production lines to 100% PERC production by 2018.

LONGi is the least indebted company in the sector

And as further proof of its prudent financial management, LONGi Solar ranks first with the lowest debt ratio of 53% in the photovoltaic sector.
